Greetings from the Community Foundation!
My name is Molly and I have been working at the Grand Rapids Community Foundation as the Public Relations Intern since January 2011. Luckily I have the opportunity to stay here a bit longer because they found a summer job for me: to report on summer jobs.
The W.K. Kellogg Foundation recently awarded $400,000 to the Community Foundation for us to redistribute to local nonprofit youth employment programs. This week, the Community Foundation will be evaluating proposals and awarding grants so that the programs can get to work as the hunt for summer jobs is already underway.
In addition to making the grants, we will also be following up with grantees, employers and most importantly, the kids who have been placed at a summer job through one of the programs. That’s where I come in. I will be using this blog to share their stories this summer so we can see what they learn at their job and how it might help them in the future.

Name: Molly
Age: 21
School: Grand Valley State University, Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising and Public Relations
Current Summer Job: PR Intern at Grand Rapids Community Foundation
Past Summer Jobs: Panera Bread, Conor O’Neill’s, Campus Den
What did I learn at those jobs? I learned how to balance my job with the rest of my life, how to work with different types of people – whether it was my bosses, co-workers or customers – how to handle money and prepare deposits and how to perfectly fold a t-shirt : )
